Viris is dedicated to researching some of the most pressing eye challenges of our time- with the help of a diverse range of expertise and perspectives to every project we undertake. Our present studies entail Coloboma, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and Stargardt disease.
Coloboma is an eye condition that people are born with; entailing missing tissue in the iris, uvea, lens, retina, and macula of the eye, as well as, in some cases, the optic nerve.
Retinitis Pigmentosa affects the light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of the eye (retina); making cells break down slowly- until vision loss incurs.
Stargardt disease is an uncommon genetic eye disease; stemming from fatty material build-up on the macula.
